About Me

My photo
My name is Nicki and I am a mother and wife. My Husband and I live in Iowa in our first home with our son Alex, our 3 dogs and my cat. We are animal lovers and love everything about old time living and try to be as self sufficient as we can be. My sister and I grew up out in the country with no electricity and we loved it! How many 23 year old women do you hear that from? Not many I'm just crazy or so Ive been told. I am always learning new crafts because I get bored easily, right now I am learning how to knit but my real passion is starting my own herbal soap and healing salve making business with my mom, Woods Edge Creations.

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale)

Comfrey is in my veiw a wonderful herb that has been used for centuries. Comfrey's genus name, symphytum, means to bring together, and comfrey is an amazing wound healer, being high in allantoin, a constituent that encourages cell regeneration.
Used externally, comfrey is completely safe, even for babies, and it is in its use as a wound dressing that comfrey's magic shines through. It is a popular addition to herbal salves and ointments, which can be used for bruises, sprains, eczama, swellings and burns. We have used comfrey salve for years and are now offering it for sale! We have used it on burns, dry skin, diaper rash, for our dogs hot spots, for any sores or cuts on us and our animals! This is defiantly something to keep in your medicine chest!

Soap Making Fun

A batch of one of my favorite soaps is ready! It is my Rosemary Mint! So refreshing, cleansing and awakening this is my wake me up in the morning soap! This soap has a combination of rosemary and mint essential oils and real mint leaves in it! Our soaps are made using the cold process soap method! We also make a body/ room mist to go with it!

Christmas Gift Idea's

This Christmas is a tight one! And I'm sure all of you can relate, so this Christmas I'm having to be extra creative! Some people look at not having much money as a huge problem but I try to look at it as an opportunity to be more creative and learn new ways to be frugal! In this day and age I think we need to take a step back and remember what Christmas is all about, the birth of Gods son, family, friends and holiday cheer! So here are a few Christmas gift idea's that I have done this year and hope you all will share your idea's to!
I have been crafting away! Ive been making old sweaters into throw pillows, making spa baskets with my handmade soaps, body butters, bath bags and body sprays, baking mixes and crocheting hats and scarves. My next projects are a baby bunny blanket, some purses for my nieces and a angel hand print tee shirt for Alex's great grandma. I would also like to make a few cute stuffed animals from old sweaters! I hope this has been helpful and will post pictures soon!

P.S.
This is my first blog ever! How Fun!
